Called Due to Tide (by Tom)

November 29, 2009 Tahiti Beach

We took our time getting up and going this morning as we needed to take on fuel and water before we left and the marina fuel dock didn't open until 11 am. We ate breakfast and played with the weasels and then read books before finally upping anchor and motoring over to the fuel dock.

We ended up getting 45 gallns of fuel, 35 of which were for the mother ship and then water. Completely in line wit yesterday's report about the Bahamian fleecing of visiting yachts, fuel dock dude charged us 20 bucks flat for water. It didn't matter that we only needed 50 gallons. That worked out to a cool 40 cents per. Can you say highway robbery? I think you can.

After fueling we cast off and headed two hours south to Tahiti Beach on the south end of Elbow Cay. We anchored amidst 6 charter sailboats and one other cruising boat. In the afternoon we launched the dinghy and motored in to the beach to have a glass of wine while we plaed our Kuub game in the sand. Half way through the game a small powerboat with a fat American and a trophy wife showed up and beached themselves nearby. Two small dogs jumped off the boat and proceeded to terrorize the people happily sunning themselves. One of the dogs tried to steal a Kuub piece and I had to bean him in the head. He dropped the game piece and ran back to his boat. The fat American watched the whole thing but never said a word. Ass.

I beat Amy pretty badly in the first game and was on my way to winning game two when the tide rose far enough to cover part of our playing field. Game called on a count of tide. Baseball might be cooler if once in a while a game was a called on a count of tide. Or if they gave the players hockey sticks.

We retreated to our boat where I made pressure cooker ribs for dinner. Amy supplied a vegetable medley which I secretly gave my portion to Mila when Amy wasn't looking. Mmmm, yum.

After dinner we watched the first two episodes of this season's House and then called it a day. Tomorrow we plan on moving down to Lynyard Cay and staging for the crossing to Eleuthera.
