Drift Diving (by Tom)

We finally drummed up enough motivation to leave Georgetown. After 6 trips in to town for fuel, water and rum, we upped anchor and motored out the south entrance. Our destination for the day was the south side of Hog Cay cut where we have anchored before and found it to be quite pleasant. The wind that had been forecast never materialized and so we motored the 14 miles down.

Once anchored, we launched the dinghy and zoomed around to the far side of Hog Cay and proceeded to drift dive through the narrow cut between Hog and Leaf Cays. The current was pretty strong, which made hunting pretty tough. With the current pushing me at 2 knots, I basically had only seconds to identify a given tasty morsel and then shoot before I was washed past him.

It took some getting used to, but on three passes through I managed to score one lobster, one medium mutton snapper and one large grouper. All in all, I figure its not too shabby considering the fierce current.

Back on the mother ship, a wind had popped up out of the west and we opted to up anchor and use the remaining daylight to sail over to Thompson Bay where we are now anchored. After the boat was put to bed, we watched the sun drop over a glass of wine and then we made lobster linguine with white wine sauce. It was quite good and their were no leftovers.

Amy and Mila called it a day shortly after dinner while Marley, Milo and I watched Transformer 2. As an side, Milo says that while the movie contained the requisite number of explosions and hot chicks, it was poorly told ad not worth watching. Two furry paws down.

We plan on being here at least a week or so and then maybe sailing to Farmer's Cay for the 5F festival in February. More to follow, end of line.
