Engine Fairies (by tom)

July 21, 2012 Baileys House

This morning I took "Grouper Style" and rode with the tide back to Dream Catcher with my freshly reassembled, but probably not repaired engine.

After a long twenty minute ride in some rough seas and 25 knots of wind, I arrived back at the mother ship. It took the better part of an hour, but I got the engine re-installed and it fired up on the first turn of the key.

I never did find anything that looked like it could be the source of disappearing engine oil, but who knows, maybe the engine fairies will sprinkle magic fairy dust and make it all better? I can hope right?

Once the engine job was done, I spent thirty minutes removing the gasket like material from around the main companion way door. The last time we closed our plexi-glass door, we weren't able to get a good seal and so last week when we went up to the hardware store, I scored 30 feet of that stuff you put between your pickup truck bed and it's fiberglass cap.

I ran out of time, so the install of the new gasket stuff will have to wait until next time.

I dinghied back across the harbour and met Amy in town at 3 pm. After a quick stop for emergency vegetables, we headed back to our temporary digs in time to watch the final two matches of the women's beach volleyball tournament from Germany. For the record, Brazil beat China in straight sets for the top spot.

Ok, that about wraps it up. More to follow, end of line ....

Da boys sittin' around da bar, here in Ogdensburg, WI been buggin' me to write in and just say 'hi' to Amy and the Weasels. and say hi to Old Sarg, as we know he's out der, and we think of him as one of us. the corn isn't so good, you know, but it doesn't stop da boys from stoppin' in for a bump & a beer in mid afternoon. We been thinkin' you should post a picture of your sister (the old one) as we kinda are curious. of course, none of da boys here, ever been on a boat, but we like hearin' about your bug hunting, as they think that is something they would like to try someday, hey. not sure they know that might be under water, but who cares.

Marta,
The International Beach Volleyball Association (or some similar, officious sounding governing authority), much to my personal distress, this year allowed the athletes to chose their competitive garb. And a more modest 1 piece suit was one of the choices. I was eternally grateful when the women chose to continue in their current suits, citing the ability to move more comfortably as the reason for their choice.

...I love engine fairies.....we have a festival of Fairies up here in Pa. every spring.....1000's come to frolic, gambol, and just generally commune with nature and her bounty...............

......OH WAIT....I almost forgot, this is my typically-jaded-and-ultimately-highly-opinionated and/or/offensive -and-somewhat-snarky-floating brother......don't be silly....fairies don't work on engines...they do laundry, chauffeur to and from any given sport practice and game, and shop for groceries....or that's what they SHOULD be doing.......

..tell Amy we said hey...the kids are loving all of the pictures...keep them coming....stay safe and tell the guys in WI to have a "pop" for me!
