We were up early to catch the weather report and then retrieve our anchor. Once we were free, we set the main, rolled out the head sail and took off back towards Georgetown. Initially we were dead down wind and after running wing on wing for an hour we decided to run on just the main alone.
We continued under main power at a stately 6 knots. As noon approached the wind dropped from 25 to 15 and we opted to raise the spinnaker. Our speeds jumped to 10.5 knots and we decided to drop the main. Under just spinnaker alone we stayed at a more manageable 8 knots. We passed several boats as the day wore on and one took some video of us that I hope to procure in the next couple of days.
Speaking of video, Amy and I played with the video mode on her camera and one of the short movies was really funny so I have decided to include it on the website as soon as I can figure out how to convert it to a web friendly format. The video shows me getting worked over by what turned out to be a very large, 15 pound mutton snapper that we hooked up while under spinnaker. With such a big sail up we could not readily slow the boat to battle the fish, hence our video of the fish Frisbee.
It was all fun and games until the fish got traction and dug back in to the water, consequently sending the end of my fishing pole slamming into the family jewels. If you listen close you an even hear me cry out "Ahhhh! He kicked me in the jimmy!". Needless to say, he payed the ultimate price for his transgressions.
We arrived back off of the monument around 3 pm and by 4 we had the anchor down and the boat put to bed. Our plan is to hang out here for a couple of days and then over up to the 5F festival at Farmers Cay this weekend. I guess we'll see how that works.
More to follow, end of line.
