I awoke around 3 am thanks to two frightened weasels who were scared by the thunder and decided to seek refuge under the covers with me. Being deaf, Marley was not bothered by the loud nse and so he stayed in his cage.
I couldn't get back to sleep so I got up by 4 and sured the net on an open wifi connection I saw here in the anchorage. After two hours of serious surfing the sun sort of peaked through the cloud cover and I got the boat underway. The engine noises were enough to drive Amy from bed and she made us breakfast pizzas while I headed north.
The was an unnatural fog hanging over everything this morning caused by the paper factory here in Fernandina Beach. There was so much smole it even blotted out the sun. I'm not sure how people live next to this thing when the wind is blowing the wrong direction. Yuck.
Eventually we emerged from the smog cloud. We had a pretty good following wind so we set the main and the head sail and shut the engines down. We passed by King's Bay where the Navy keeps it's nuclear subs, but all we saw was an old diesel powered model tied up at the wharf.
The day passed on and the wind built. By mid afternoon we had reefed the head sail to keep things in check. Around 4:30 pm we reached Doboy Island and anchored in her lee in about 9 feet of water. Dinner was chicken fingers and fries and tonights entertainment was Harry Potter 6.
To be around 10 pm.
