On the boat project front, I've successfully tested our new depth sounder transducer, but as of yet I haven't found a permanent home for it. For those interested, I am using it in a shoot thru the hull manner rather than a traditional thru-hull style installation. The advantage being that I don't have to cut another hole in the bottom of the boat, which while we are in the water is a questionable proposition at best.
The problem I am having is that the location I want to use is actually aft of the keels which in a shallow water usage situation makes very little sense. I mean if the boat goes aground do I really need a computer to tell me I'm in less than three feet of water? In any case, I'm still working on it and I'll let you know what I decide after the holiday passes and I can get back out to the hardware store.
Speaking of holidays, we aren't really big into them as a general rule. About as close as we come is July 4th. I mean at least with the 4th we are celebrating the birth of a nation as opposed to say May 18th where we celebrate the birth of Tom. See the difference? Nation building and freedom from tyranny versus funny looking dude with a big head.
It's sort of like one of those SAT questions; which one doesn't fit?
Anyhow, our 11th wedding anniversary recently passed and since we don't go out and buy each other ridiculously sentimental, commercially approved junk, we instead opted to spend down some of our accumulated frequent flier bonus points with American Express. I know they are called "frequent flier" points, but in this day and age you can just spend them like cash at hundreds of online stores.
I've been collecting AMEX points for close to two decades and as we have only ever used them once or twice in all that time, we have quite a few of them standing by. The only rule Amy and I have is that what ever we use the points for has to be something we find interesting and that we would never spend real dollars on. Sounds weird I admit, but it's actually a lot of fun.
Case in point: our 8 inch, Ken Onion, chef's knife. We've never had a knife that cost more than 19.95, so dropping a cool 200 dollars worth of points (about 40,000) definitely made this purchase fit our "things we'd never spend real money on" clause.
Now obviously a good knife doesn't make me a professional chef, unless of course, I sleep at a Holiday Inn tonight, but after three weeks worth of use, I can say it's been cool to have around. And it's with that thought in mind that I have added a new menu option at the top of our website to include some of the recipes we really like and use often.
In addition to the recipe section, I've finally fixed the email form found under Contact and it does in fact actually work now. It did take almost two years to fix, but what can I tell you, good help is hard to find. Happy birthday America.
More to follow, end of line.
