With our time in G'Town drawing to a close, we're trying to get our fill of the things that keep bringing us back here year after year. With the exception of 2 on 2 volleyball, that means poker. We played the regular Thursday night game (which we won) and then today we played not once, but twice at the Sunday invitation only game. I'm pretty sure that I am now pokered out.
I spent this morning trying unsuccessfully to dismantle our KISS wind generator. The damn blade hub has all but welded itself on to the alternator shaft and despite my best efforts, I have been unable to remove said hub.
George from St. Francis has kindly offered me the use of his machine shop out behind the resort, so tomorrow Grouper Style Ollie and I are going up to beat the thing into submission. I'll let you know how that goes.
In other news, we sort of finalized plans for Sunday's superbowl. It looks like we'll be heading over to Palm Bay Beach Club yet again and I suspect there are several volleyball buddies who will be going with us. After that, the first decent forecast and we're outta here.
For those interested, the last time I heard there were 220 boats floating in and around G'Town and this past week we have had a couple of reminders of the potential dangers that this lifestyle entail.
One boat, a new Hunter 35 suffered a serious rigging failure and was dismasted 10 or so miles out. Fortunately for the crew they were able to make the harbour safely and the boat (now rigless) is safely secured to a mooring ball behind the Chat and Chill. Another boat washed up on the iron shore on the east side of Long Island and was destroyed. No crew has been found and details are still unclear, but we're hoping for the best.
And finally, last night we attended the second ARG (Alcohol Research Group) event of the season. This time we not only had a bonfire, but live music thanks to Jon on Freebird. Amy and I got roped into singing with him and I did in fact scare several people away with my throaty rendition of Dr. Hook's On the Cover of the Rolling Stone. Sorry.
Ok, thats about it. Talk you later in the week.
